Goshen has been Orange County's sole county seat since 1970, and the Village of Goshen still has a dense core of older houses around the courthouse and Church Street. The Town of Goshen counted 14,571 people in 2020, and about 80 percent of its homes are owner-occupied, many of them on larger lots with a barn, a detached garage or a workshop out back.
In the village, the work is mostly age: original or patched wiring, a few circuits carrying modern kitchens, panels that were replaced once and are full again. Out of the village it shifts to distance and weather: outbuilding feeders, well pumps and generator plans for storms that take Orange and Rockland lines down. Older outbuildings often run on one undersized cable from the house, which is fine for a light and a few outlets but not for a welder, a freezer and a heater. Since December 31, 2025, permitted work follows the 2023 NEC.

Permits come from the Town of Goshen or, inside the village, the Village of Goshen, and the electrical inspection is done by an independent agency the town approves. Since December 31, 2025, permitted work outside New York City follows the 2023 NEC adopted by the state.

Goshen questions
Usually, yes. We fish new cable through walls and ceilings, open small access points where needed, and work room by room so the house stays livable.
Yes. A safety inspection covers the service, panel, wiring methods and grounding, with a written list of what needs attention.
With a feeder sized for the distance and the load, usually underground in conduit, to a subpanel in the barn.
It depends on what has to keep running, such as wells, heat or livestock water. We size a unit to those loads so you can compare it against a portable setup.
