Orange County is the only county in New York that borders both the Hudson and the Delaware, and its housing spans that whole distance: rowhouses in Newburgh, village homes in Goshen and Warwick, lake cottages at Greenwood Lake, and newer subdivisions along the Route 17 corridor. It is also growing; between 2010 and 2020 it was the third-fastest growing county in the state, behind only Brooklyn and Queens. About two thirds of its homes are owner-occupied, so most calls come from the people who live in the house.
Power comes from more than one utility. Orange and Rockland serves Warwick, Monroe, Chester, Goshen, Middletown and Port Jervis, while Central Hudson covers the Newburgh side, which matters for meter work, service upgrades and outage response. Outside the city, the state's 2023 NEC also brings new rules for work permitted after December 31, 2025, such as an outdoor emergency disconnect on new and replaced services.

DetailsPermits and inspection in Orange County
Outside New York City there is no city-style electrical department. Each town or village building department issues the permit, and the electrical inspection itself is done by a third-party agency the town has approved; the Town of Warwick, for one, publishes its list of approved agencies. The inspector issues the certificate of compliance the building department needs. Since December 31, 2025, permitted work statewide follows the 2023 NEC.
